as you can see i've been spring-cleaning jenjen.com.au - must be another novel-avoidance strategy. while those around me are cleaning their houses and getting their cars fixed, your (technically) homeless blogger is tidying her sidebars of e-clutter and accumulated e-dust. please let me know if you find any dead links or design flaws as i haven't had a chance to test it on another monitor/browser.
yesterday i heard my first cicada of the year, singing heartily from a post office gum tree; the other day, the first Christmas beetle appeared (drowned in the spa at the house i'm sitting). it's officially summer and here in Alice that means hovering dread of the outdoors, obsessive seeking after air conditioning, holiday plans and probably no more camping unless there's a break in the heat (or i become actually homeless). suddenly everyone knows which lunch place has the best aircon. people with backyard pools become instantly popular and town pool teems with human young. the housing crisis eases (we hope). and another year grinds into shutdown. the usual fun.
oh and call me insensitive, but i don't know what all the fuss is about over fort hood when they were sending those kids to their deaths anyway.

It is a joy to read your blog. I just wanted to make sure cos you are not on twitter that you saw this quote from just a day or so ago, from Barbara Jane Reyes, "one alternative is to continue being marginalized and rendered invisible, or written about and misrepresented." Fortunately there are so many other options too. And you are one of them, Jen.
