i'm spending a quiet day in sydney before i head up to Varuna for a two-week residency, then back to sydney for the SWF. the hustle and bustle is nicely complemented by a beautiful sunny day (which i am foolishly wasting in a bad coffee franchise with wireless) and the fact that i'm escaping tomorrow to hide and write and hopefully be a little more offline than usual. it will be too cold in Katoomba to do anything but write. DSN here i come.

i stumbled upon a review of TDA in the Oz today. it's quite weird to stumble upon reviews while flicking through the paper in an old familiar cafe. living somewhere where the papers arrive in the middle of the afternoon has ensured i usually get a text from someone (or an email from UQP) by the time i get to the newspaper itself. it's a nice piece, and lord knows it's tough to get in the Weekend Review, but i did object to being aged by a year!

a quick rave about the nt writers festival Eye of the Storm, the most nourishing, seamlessly organised, creatively inspiring, warm, and magical writers festival in the country, IMHO. i'm full of ideas and purpose and the special empowerment of a fabulous community of writers (dominated by wonderfully strong women). feeling totally blessed and ready for work. thank you to everyone involved, especially Sandra Thibodeaux at the NTWC. there are some top photos on bob gosford's blog here and here.

my review of samson and delilah is up on new matilda. it is really the best australian film ever made i reckon. it opens today in sydney and melbourne, go and see it right away.

one more thing: here's a video about the anthology 'Grandma Magic' to which i contributed, among some excellent company. Grandma Magic will also be launched at the SWF.

Sounds like an excursion to Eye Of The Storm is in order for this blogger one of these days.
Have a fine time holed up in Varuna, you old soul, you.

hey so did someone email you about the hilarious mother's day product placement you got in the good Weekend? That is fame my friend! I tore it out if you'd like it.

ps - just got the book itself and very excited to cosy up with it.
