babies

Monday, January 12, 2009

ohhhhhh back in sydney and surviving on caffeine and the beach. coming down from travel. visiting friends and family. people keep having babies - i am not against this. but i am tired and eager for a room of my own in which to write. this back porch that catches the edge of the rain will do for now.

The Diamond Anchor was in a plastic bubble wrap envelope on a bedside table in my parents guest room when i arrived. i had thought they might put it under the christmas tree... i love the cover. i would put a sneak-preview picture of it up here, but i have lost my camera. let's just say there is stickytape involved and i am thrilled to my very atoms that i finally have something i can point to and say 'this is what i do.'

(ed: found one!)

it has also been pipped at the post by a little poetry chapbook which is coming out on PressPress in February. i find it appropriate that the poetry comes first, considering i started writing stories as a bit of an afterthought (to the thought that poetry might not be the best way to go about finding an audience). since then stories got their claws into me bigtime. quite a few of the poems are bent toward the narrative, i think.

there are two children in my little family now, and unlike human children, others get to pick apart their idiosyncrasies and flaws with as much relish as they like. imagine if there was a baby review section in the papers. 'Mrs W's third baby is a bold attempt to break from her previous two works, and one which only partially succeeds.'

right, i'm suggesting it to the herald.

I'm new to your blog, but wanted to say congratulations on your paper kidlets - twins! - it must feel amazing.

And yes, suggest that to the Herald.

Might have to get myself a review copy, Ms J. I will chase your publisher.
Glad you have your eye on both your babies, but don't be afraid to let them wander, they should be fine.
At least they don't need to be hidden under curtains when they go out for a walk, like all the little 'uns are now.

Just came across your site after googling your name after listening to your story on the commonwealth short story comp site. I think I want to enter something in this year's competition.

Anyway, hello.

As much as I hate newspapers, I'd buy one if it had baby reviews (and I'd be keeping a keen eye out for something interesting about Max)!

btw, are you going to come back to Syd for/around the book launch?

that backfired - i was trying to *dis* my breeder friends.

you know max is already local cuteweight title defender. the papers would love him.

i won't have launches per se. but i should be back in may.

Fantastic to see your book as a real, live cover image Jen! I'm looking forward to getting my mitts onto on come April. Congrats on the million other projects you seem to be working on at the moment too...
