just a quick one from kakadu, i'm in the library here in the tourist-and-miner-servicing town of Jabiru, where there is a very suspicious lake. i played in the sprinklers for a minute on my way here and then had a nasty thought about ranger uranium mine, which is quite literally just over the road.
sickness country. it's in the story of the lightning man who made this place, and all the informative little signs everywhere make mention of the part of the tale where if anyone disturbs the earth they will bring a rain of fire down upon all our heads, but not much mention is made of ranger, for obvious reasons.
hmm. i am going back to the bush to lie near a nice billabong, read classic australian literature, get eaten by mosquitos, and not think about stuff for a bit. i keep getting 'waltzing matilda' stuck in my head, partly cause Katherine Susannah Pritchard keeps quoting it, and partly cause the only thing missing is the jumbuck (there seem to be a stupid amount of cops here).
so yes, i am taking it very bloody easy. it's not that i don't care about the troubles in the world, i just don't feel like paying any attention to them right now (and the NT "Empty" News helps me in this mission). car is fine. i am vague and very dirty. will write properly when i'm not being distracted by a little kids' weaving workshop in my peripheral vision, which seems to be attempting to turn this bizarre construction in the bush into a "nice community". i don't like its chances.
