lake eyre is supposed to start filling in a couple of weeks, and i really want to get down there. anyone up for it? easter might be a good time...
you may have noticed i've been trying to leave alice for weeks. i realised i was just having anniversary angst. hard to believe it's been a whole year. things which i didn't think would ever happen are starting to happen for the second time. things like jen goes to an AFL game.
anyway i decided to stay for a while, cause i like it here. leaving would just be repeating a pattern, and that's beside the point. constantly escaping is not liberty, it's a trap. see? i've matured (read: i still don't have my drivers licence).
news is as follows.
1. i was involved in the art-land-culture "ideas incubator" which i will write about a bit later, when i have a head for it. it was good.
2. i made a banjo.
this feat was inspired by a discussion i stumbled upon ages ago, when looking to fix the crack in my fiddle. i finally made the time, and it was great fun. the pegs are made from plastic-ended cabinet screws, and have to be tuned with a giant screwdriver. the only actual banjo part is the strings. all up it cost me about $10. it weighs very little and sounds remarkably like a banjo, except quieter.
3. i received my book order, one day after stocking up at the library book sale.
if anyone ever wants to make me happy, this is the quick way.
4. lots of other stuff... but mostly involving an editing frenzy, and therefore not very exciting. you know when you wake up with swollen finger joints and think 'oh god, i've got cancer' and then realise you spent twelve hours at a desk the previous day? yeah, *that* exciting. and you thought all writers did was wear black and swan around in cafes being witty, tragic and handsome! if only.
