april kind of came and went without incident. this not travelling thing is a bit weird.
okay, not entirely without incident.
1. i went to sydney for a visit and to haul my stuff back here and to go to a fun period costume wedding in the blue mountains. i looked smashing in victorian drag, but i don't have any photos so you'll have to imagine it.
crikey, trees are nice aren't they. especially big tall wet green ones, all close together like.
2. i got a job. this is also extraordinarily weird after a holiday of almost two years. well, i did say i was retiring from the workforce when i left my last job, but those million dollar book deals haven't been breaking my door down quite as much as i expected. i now work at the alice springs women's shelter. it's casual so i haven't sold out.
3. i celebrated my newly cashed up status and bought a computer, which is on its way to the desert from wherever laptops gestate, and this will help me attract the aforementioned deals by enabling me to write actual books.
4. today i solved the riddle of how to make windows out of the available waste material lying around at my place. this has suddenly become necessary as it gets cold at night. which also means that every day is an absolutely perfect crisp 25 degrees and sunny. sometimes it feels surreal, almost weatherless. like being invited into a rich person's house. is this for real? i'm allowed to be here?
in other renovation news i have just about finished my back porch, also made out of waste material (mostly old doors, the lazy person's instant surface). it is where i choose to sit out many evenings with a glass of homebrew and some tunes, gazing at the stars. you really should drop round sometime.
5. lately i feel like contentment has crept up on me unawares, chased me down like a banana in sleepwear, and given me an unwanted hug. this makes me angry, because i am stupid.

Awww, you shouldn 't be fretting. In fact, you should celebrate because you're inundated with all the blessings others only hanker for.
OTOH, the "chased me down like a banana in sleepwear" is quite a great figure of speech. :)
